Here’s a science craft for preschool children!

Celery gets thirsty too! And, we think introducing science to young children is a great idea. This science craft experiment is super simple for preschool and kindergarten children to make. Just perfect for a science theme unit at home or in the classroom.

The Everything Kids’ Science Experiments Book: Boil Ice, Float Water, Measure Gravity-Challenge the World Around You! (Everything Kids Series) written by Tom Robinson is a wonderful book to read with the children when looking for a science craft or experiment. And, there are so many great activities that to with the book, like this celery food coloring science experiment for kids.

In The Garden song for kids is a nice complement to this super fun kids celery science craft activity.

Science items you will need:

  • Celery stalk with leaves
  • Container
  • Water
  • Food coloring (red, green, blue)

Science experiment directions:

Have the children pour water into each container.

Next, have them add different color food coloring (8-10 drops each) to the water.

Then, have the children watch the ‘plant’s’ absorption of the colored water and see the leaves change colors.

And, voila, that’s Celery Science!
